You are invited to the Seventh Annual
Session of the National Model
African Union to be held at Howard University, Washington, D.C,
from February 26 to March 1, 2009. This session celebrates 30 years of
simulating the Organization of African Unity and now of the African Union at Howard University.
The Model African Union is essentially a
simulation of the proceedings of the African Union. It provides
a unique opportunity for university and college students to
study the role , structure and performance of the African Union in the
search for solutions to key economic, social, and
political-security issues facing the African continent. Through
simulation, augmented by briefings at African Embassies in
Washington, D.C., participants gain a better and clearer
understanding of the multi-various determinants, capabilities
and constraints that shape the domestic and foreign policies of
African countries as well as the patterns of cooperation and
conflict that characterize intra-African diplomacy.
Upon registration, you shall
receive preparatory material which includes the Constitutive Act
of the African Union; country-profile (provided by the Embassy);
the Delegation and Officers Handbook and a Faculty Advisors
Handbook. The handbooks include the schedule of events, the
agenda and Rules of the Model.
Your delegation shall be briefed
at the Embassy of your selected country in Washington, D.C., on
February 26, 2009. Country assignments are now being made.
